Mumbai, April 13,2009: The Bombay City District Athletic Association (BCDAAA) has decided to give an extra fillip to Athletics by involving its outstanding athletes of yester years. The Executive committee at its last meeting has decided to set up 3 training modules under the leadership of International Marathon Runner Savio D’Souza, National Sprinter Govind Dangi and Olympian Rachita Mistry.
Savio, Govind and Rachita will be assisted by other International and National Athletes such as Brinston Miranda, Rakesh Raut, Praful Utchil, Homiyar Mistry, Leelamma Alphonso, etc.
In recent times we have had a huge response from runners as well as corporates wanting to participate in the full and half marathons in Mumbai. Today most individuals are finding it difficult to get the correct advice for distance running. Therefore, as the controlling body for athletics in Mumbai the BCDAAA
has decided to set up a training program under the guidance of International Marathon runner Savio D’Souza, at various centers all over Mumbai.
The then President of BCDAAA, late Mr Tara Malkani was instrumental in setting up Mumbai’s first Synthetic track at Priyadarshini Park in South Mumbai. From its inception the BCDAAA has set up a training program there - that is conducted throughout the year. Former national Medalist Govind Dangi has been put in charge of that Program.
The IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation, Monaco), experts have created the team competition of Kids’ Athletics. The IAAF Kids’ Athletics programme is being implemented in schools worldwide. The BCDAAA has taken the initiative to popularize Kids’ Athletics in schools of Mumbai. The aim is to make Athletics accessible to all, to offer children a motivating and instructive sports activity. Kids’ Athletics offers a successful initiation to athletics thanks to a progressive evolution of the forms of training/competitions tailored to the young athletes between 7 and 15 years old. The training for Kids’ Athletics will be conducted by Olympian Rachita Mistry along with a team of qualified athletic coaches Nagesh Shetty and Deepak Londhe. The Kids’ Athletics programme will contribute to the harmonious development of children and will provide pleasure in practicing athletics in the model of a game. The educational approach adopted is based on a competition adapted to all. It retains one of the essential values of sport that is, surpassing oneself. The values of effort, mutual respect within a team, of responsibility and autonomy will be conveyed throughout the training period of children through the necessary adjustments of athletics to the given age category.
New events and innovative organization will enable children to discover basic activities: sprinting, endurance, running, jumping, throwing / putting in just about any available sport area.
The athletics games will provide children with the opportunity to make the most of the beneficial practice of Athletics, in terms of Health, education, and Self fulfillment.
For further details or enquires please send us an email, or contact the Associations’ office, or call Savio/Homiyar Mistry on 9322290509, or Govind Dangi for PDP training on 9869155845 or Rachita Mistry 93222 84530 for the 3 Days Kids Athletics Programme to be implemented in your school.
