Release: New Delhi, May 16,2005: 1st leg of the AFI National Athletics Circuit will be held on 17th May, 2005 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. The Prize Money Meet will be sponsored by Vinex. There will be 16 events in the National Athletics Circuit including 11 for Men and 5 for Women. There will be more than 175 athletes who will be competing in these events. The program of the events is enclosed. All the top stars will be taking part in these events. In 400m there will be keen competition among Manjeet Kaur, Rajwinder Kaur, Chitra K. Soman and S. Geetha. This will be the 1st competition of 400m in Girls Section who participated in Olympic Games and finished 7th with a new national record. In the women section other interesting competition will be among Discus Throwers where Neelam J. Singh, Krishna Punia, Seema Antil and Harwant Kaur will be competing in the 2nd competition of the season. Ranvijay Singh is likely to get stiff competition from Navpreet Singh and Shakti Singh in the Shot Put Event. Ranvijay Singh’s performance during the ATE-Salwan National Meet for Throws was good. He won the event with the distance of 19.89mtrs. It is expected that there will be very strong competition in Triple Jump (Men) where all the Top Jumpers including Amarjeet Singh, M. Ranjeet, will participate. The women Pole-Vaulters will try to create new National Record again. The field will be lead by Chetna Solanki and V.S. Surekha. Javelin Throw (Men) Competition will be between Jagdish Bishnoi, a former Asian Champion and Sunil Goswami. Some juniors will also be seen in action and they will get competition against seniors. The Men 100m will also be very exciting event, where all the best Sprinters like Piyush Kumar, Sandeep Sarkaria, Harshad Hussain, H. Jayachandren, Surender Singh (from Juniors) will be seen in action. The event will start at 2.45 PM for Hammer Throw and Pole Vault. The other Events will start from 4.00 PM and will continue till 8.00pm |
